Milan, Italy – With the easing of travel restrictions within Europe, the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Milan has recently participated in a Consular Outreach Mission organized by the Philippine Embassy in Vienna, Austria last 19-22 August 2021 wherein OFWs from Croatia and Austria were assisted for their OWWA membership application and labor concerns.

In particular, POLO Milan received 40 requests for assistance and inquiries on labor concerns and verification while OWWA assisted 50 Filipino workers for their OWWA membership application and renewal.

During the mission, Labor Attache Buñag met with Philippine Embassy in Vienna Consul  Ma. Carmela Teresa Cabreira and Vice Consul Patricia Milla to discuss the status of the proposed PH-Croatia Memorandum of Understanding and the rising demand for construction workers in Croatia. The Labor Attache also met with Filipino workers from Pregrada, Croatia to check on their living and working conditions thereat.

It may be noted that Filipino workers in Croatia enjoy good working conditions in general with their net pay ranging from approximately 600-1000 Euros depending on the nature of their work. The POLO, however, still received a number of labor complaints on unpaid salaries and non-renewal of residence permits. With this, the POLO assured the workers that their complaints will be coordinated with their respective agencies for the immediate resolution of their concerns.
